Harun Farocki (1944, Novy Jičín, Czech Republic – 2014, Berlin, Germany) – film
director, screenwriter and media artist. He made over 90 films, the vast majority
of them short experimental documentaries. In 1974-84 he edited the Filmkritik
magazine (Munich). In 1993-99 he taught at the University of California,
Berkeley, and in 2004-11 – at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In 1998 together
with film theorist Kaja Silverman published a book Speaking about Godard.
Farocki’s retrospectives were held at the Locarno Festival (1998), at the Buenos
Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (2003). In 2007 he
participated in documenta 12 with the project Deep Play.
