Zhenya Machneva. Born in 1988 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). Graduated from the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz
State Academy of Art and Design in 2011, from School for Young Artists of the PRO ARTE
foundation and National Centre for Contemporary Arts in 2013. Participated in group exhibitions in
Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Ekaterinburg. Participated in the Artist-in- Residence program of the
3rd Ural Biennial (2015). Member of the Artists' Union of Russia.
Zhenya Machneva documents industrial images in her works by exploring the meeting points of
traditional art and technological progress. In 2015, as part of the artist-in- residence program of the
3rd Ural Industrial Biennial at Kaslinsky Plant of Art Casting, Zhenya worked with images of mass
production art, which, woven on her tapestries, become a part of singular issue.
Continuing the theme of Kasli casting, in 2017 Zhenya works on Kasli Cast-Iron Pavilion
recreation project with use of tapestry weaving technique and participates in a residency in Paris,
collecting information about the pavilion’s journey to the Exposition Universelle.
As part of the Artist-in- Residence program of the Ural Biennial, Zhenya Machneva creates textile
copy of the Kasli Cast-Iron Pavilion, which will be shown at the grand exhibition of the artist-in-
