The Ural Industrial Biennial goes to Tyumen

The special project of the Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art, the exhibition Work Never Stops will open in Tyumen Museum and Education Association on November 9, 2017.

At the initiative of the Government of the Tyumen region, the special project of the Ural Biennial will become the first exhibition hosted by the new museum complex named after I.Y. Slovtsov (63 Sovetskaya Street). The project Work Never Stops elaborates upon the theme of New Literacy, the main theme of the Biennial this year. The source of inspiration for curator Svetlana Usoltseva was the ancient Tyumen trade of carpet weaving. It literally intertwined with the New Literacy main theme. Work Never Stops is an exhibition dedicated to shock workers of the creative labor, in whose lives the line between private and public, work and leisure became blurred. They measure their time in projects just as weavers measured their time in carpets they’d made. All the works included in the exhibition refer to weaving, loom, and handicrafts. And every time it’s an opportunity to think about borders between personal and public, about family memory, the flow of time, and the value of manual work.

The exposition includes works by 26 contemporary artists from Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Italy. Artists Leonid Tishkov, Alexey Tregubov, Farhad Farzaliyev, Tatyana Akhmetgalieva, Varvara Kuzmina, and the creative association Where Dogs Run will come to Tyumen especially for the opening of the exhibition.

"The development of the cultural environment in the regions of our presence is an important direction of the SIBUR company charitable program The Formula of Good Deeds. Interesting and significant events are an important part of leisure and in many ways determine the cities’ attractiveness as a place of living, for our employees as well. The Ural Biennial of Contemporary Art is one of the most important cultural projects in Russia, and we are pleased to be able to contribute to the fact that such events are taking place in the Tyumen region now, " said Vladislav Kuznetsov, Director of Business Support in the Presence Regions of the SIBUR company.
