Endless Summer

The exhibition explores mosaics and sgraffito on the 1960–80s buildings of the Soviet Sverdlovsk and contemporary Ekaterinburg.

In conditions of industrial mass construction, monumental art allowed creating an aesthetic urban space and served an instrument for broadcasting ideological messages to society, creating a common value field for residents. Vivid colorful images transformed gray industrial landscape and referred to the seemingly timeless Soviet historical and cultural heritage. Photography by Ivan Kozlov and commentaries record functions and status of mosaics and sgraffito in the city today, in different political and cultural settings.
